Varicose Veins

You Don’t Have To Live With Varicose Veins

Varicose veins have always been thought of as an inconvenient cosmetic problem. However, varicose veins go deeper than that. If left untreated, varicose veins can be dangerous, if not deadly. If you have varicose veins it is imperative that you be evaluated by a physician who specializes in the treatment and removal of varicose veins.

If you have varicose veins, then you know how annoying, embarrassing, and painful they can be.

Everyone who has them wants to get rid of them. Until recently treatment options was limited to a long and painful surgery called vein stripping. Thanks to major advances in vascular technology over the last few years, you no longer have to live with unsightly and unhealthy varicose veins.

At Vivid Vascular we offer multiple minimally-invasive procedures to get rid of your unwanted varicose veins, without big incisions and minimal discomfort.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, “ropey” veins that appear on the surface of the skin on your legs. Varicose veins are not always visible. They may hide right below the skin and cause symptoms such as swelling, aching, heaviness, restless legs, and tiredness.

If left untreated, varicose veins can progress to create other more serious circulatory and skin problems in your legs such as ulcers or blood clots.

Minimally Invasive Treatment Options for Varicose Veins

At Vivid Vascular we offer a state of the art cath lab as well as today’s most advanced and effective procedures and technologies for the treatment of varicose veins.

Endovenous Laser Treatment

The Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLA) procedure is performed by inserting a laser fiber directly into the faulty vein where it delivers a precise amount of energy directly into the vein. This process seals the vein and diverts blood flow to nearby functional veins. Because the procedure increases circulation, it greatly reduces the problems associated with varicose veins, while greatly improving the surface appearance.

ClariVein™

ClariVein is a minimally invasive procedure that provides excellent results with very little pain, discomfort, downtime, or bruising. ClariVein is a thin specialty infusion catheter with a rotating wire tip designed for controlled 360-degree dispersion of medicine to the targeted treatment area. Because ClariVein generates no heat, there is no risk of thermal injury or nerve damage, and the procedure is quite comfortable.

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure in which a catheter is inserted into the diseased vein delivering heat to the vein wall and causing it to collapse and close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood is naturally re-routed to other healthier veins.

VenaSeal™ Closure System

The VenaSeal™ closure system is the only non-tumescent, non-thermal, non-sclerosant procedure that uses a special medical adhesive delivered endovenously to close the vein.  This unique approach eliminates the risk of thermal nerve injury when treating the small saphenous vein, which is a risk sometimes associated with certain thermal-based procedures. It also eliminates the need for compression stockings after the procedure, and allows for both legs to be treated at the same sitting. Of all the different options, it is the most comfortable.

Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure we perform in-office where we use a small scalpel to remove varicose veins on the surface of the leg. In this procedure, Dr. Gropper makes several tiny incisions in the skin through which he is able to  remove the varicosed vein. Stitches are not usually required, and the procedure is typically done under a local anesthesia.

Risk Factors

HEREDITY

HEREDITY

This is the number one factor – so if varicose veins run in your family, your chances of also getting them are dramatically increased.
AGE

AGE

Veins can lose elasticity as you age, becoming weak and allowing blood to flow backward. This blood then pools in your veins, which then become enlarged and varicose.
PREGNANCY

PREGNANCY

Pregnancy increases the volume of blood in your body, but decreases the flow of blood from your legs to your pelvis. Circulatory problems can then occur, causing varicose veins to appear.
GENDER

GENDER

Women are three times more likely to develop varicose veins than men. Hormonal changes during pregnancy or menopause, and taking HRT or birth control pills may all be factors.
OBESITY

OBESITY

There is a close relationship between being overweight and having venous insufficiency.
SITTING OR STANDING

SITTING OR STANDING

When you sit or stand in the same position for long periods of time, your blood doesn’t flow as well as when you are active and moving around.
